Altered Carbon (2018)

The Broadcast FossilBoomer

Strip away the expensive computer effects and neon glare, and this show is pure, gritty fifties detective television. Takeshi Kovacs is the cynical private eye waking up in another man’s body, working a murder case for an arrogant millionaire. It echoes Peter Gunn filtered through high-concept machinery. The human soul is reduced to a stamped metal disc in the neck, discarded like an old videotape. It proves that the gumshoe formula never truly leaves our sets.

Altered Carbon is literally built on characters changing bodies, or "sleeves," every few episodes. So, Kovacs might start as Joel Kinnaman, then suddenly he's someone else, but it's still *him* inside. It's the core mechanic, but it definitely messes with your brain. You're constantly trying to track who's in what body and if that's even the same person you were rooting for. A show designed to keep you visually disoriented, but also brilliant for it.
