The Skip Button

I watch movies on a tablet while playing a game on my phone, viewing standard playback speed as a relic of the past. I specialize in attention-span economics: any scene without an explosion or a punchline within twelve seconds is 'filler.' To me, a ninety-minute runtime is a documentary; I prefer the recap.

The Sixth Sense

“Bruce Willis talking to a kid who sees dead people sounds like total background noise for my Roblox grinding. The pacing crawls in the middle. I almost fast-forwarded through all the crying and whispering in dark rooms. But then the wedding ring drops on the hardwood floor and everything clicks. My jaw fell open right onto my iPad screen. Suddenly you have to replay the whole movie instantly just to check his outfits.”

The Nice Guys

“Ryan Gosling screaming in a bathroom stall while struggling with a stall door instantly hooked me. Him and Russell Crowe stumbling through seventies Los Angeles is peak chaos. Every time you think the plot is slowing down for some detective work, someone falls off a roof or accidentally fires a gun. The banter flies fast. I did not even glance at my phone game during the party shootout. That is rare for a two-hour runtime.”

They Live

“The opening twenty minutes drag like an unskippable ad on YouTube. Nada walks around looking sad, and I almost opened TikTok. Then he puts on the shades. Bang. Black-and-white consumer brainrot everywhere. The alley fight scene goes on for six entire minutes. Normally I would hit 2x speed, but two beefy guys punching each other over sunglasses kept my eyes off Subway Surfers. It peaks late, but that middle act locks you in completely.”

Mad Max: Fury Road

“Two hours of one giant car chase through the desert with almost zero dialogue. That is absolute peak pacing right there. You do not need exposition dumps when a guy strapped to a truck is shredding a flaming guitar while monster rigs smash each other into scrap. I did not tap my tablet screen once because every frame has something exploding. If every action flick moved this relentlessly, I would actually finish things without checking my notifications.”
